ABOUT rodgers and hammerstein's cinderella (broadway)
In March 2013, a new Rodgers and Hammerstein musical opened on Broadway - new to Broadway, but based on a TV musical first written nearly sixty years before and beloved by audiences all over the world. It was Rodgers + Hammerstein's Cinderella, which very quickly became the belle of the ball of the Broadway season, winning cheers for its fresh take on a timeless classic.
Douglas Carter Beane has created a new, Tony-nominated book that has been hailed for complementing the inspirational themes of Rodgers and Hammerstein with a twenty-first-century sensibility, giving the musical new characters, surprising plot twists, and revelatory moments that harken back to the Charles Perrault version of the fairy tale. The score includes familiar songs from the television versions - 'In My Own Little Corner', 'Impossible', 'A Lovely Night', and 'Do I Love You Because You're Beautiful?' - along with undiscovered gems from the "trunk". As adapted for the stage, Rodgers + Hammerstein's Cinderella features all the moments you love - the pumpkin, the glass slipper, the masked ball, and more!

available parts
Some of the Principal parts in this production have already been cast but we are looking for talented Principals to fill the following roles:
Madame (Mezzo/Alto)
Playing age: 40s - 50s
Ella's selfish stepmother. The epitome of vanity and fashion. A ravenous social climber who values wealth, status, and material possessions above all else. Unapologetically dismissive and sometimes cruel, Madame schemes her way up the social ladder.
Please email us at auditons@threepenny-theatricals.org if you decide you would like to audition for this role.
Gabrielle (Mezzo)
Playing age: 20s - 30s
Ella's stepsister and daughter of Madame. Encouraged by her mother and sister to value material wealth and social status, she unenthusiastically joins them in their abrasive behaviour. Quietly passionate, empathetic, and witty, she is drawn to Ella and Jean-Michel. Ironically aware that she doesn't fit in.
Please email us at auditons@threepenny-theatricals.org if you decide you would like to audition for this role.
Jean-Michel (Tenor)
Playing age: 20s - 30s
A feisty, passionate peasant determined to make a change for the starving class. Impetuous. A firebrand, but lacks authority and isn't taken seriously as a revolutionary. He has a crush on Gabrielle, though their courtship is forbidden because they are from different social classes.
Please email us at auditons@threepenny-theatricals.org if you decide you would like to audition for this role.
Lord Pinkleton (Tenor)
Playing age: any
He is the Lord Chancellor's right-hand man. Announces royal balls, banquets and even the weather to the villagers. A heavier singing role rather than speaking role but we will still be looking to make much of the character.
Please email us at auditons@threepenny-theatricals.org if you decide you would like to audition for this role.

notes on auditions
- Playing ages are the ages I expect the characters to appear on stage rather than the age I expect the actors to be. Much can be done with make-up/costume (within reason) and most importantly acting, to achieve what is required, so do not let the playing age put you off auditioning if you think it is the perfect part for you.
- As many of the characters make up part of a ‘pair’ then casting will be required to match people up as believable couples.
- All the parts available are of a significant size.
- You are not required to memorise the dialogue or music for the audition unless you prefer to do so and some people feel it helps them give more of a "performance" on the day. The main thing to remember is that we’d like you to be as comfortable and relaxed as possible during the audition so you should do whatever is required to achieve that. We are looking for potential – not a polished performance.
- Preparation is key. We are unable to accurately judge your ability if you have not made yourself familiar with the dialogue and music.
