sebastion davidsonSebastion had performed in plays and was in the choir at school, but never though to combine the two until he went to University. He was looking for a society to join, and having heard of Gilbert and Sullivan before (courtesy of Kelsey Grammer's renditions as Sideshow Bob in episodes of The Simpsons), he joined the Newcastle University Gilbert and Sullivan Society. His debut performance was in 2009 as Colonel Calverley in Patience.
He subsequently performed the majority of the Gilbert and Sullivan repertoire with various groups and societies across the north-east of England, including roles such as Captain Corcoran in H.M.S. Pinafore, Major-General Stanley in The Pirates of Penzance, Jack Point in The Yeomen of the Guard, Reginald Bunthorne in Patience, Luiz in The Gondoliers, and Despard Murgatroyd in Ruddigore. He reprised the latter role at the 20th International Gilbert and Sullivan Festival's UNIFest, where he was awarded Best Character Actor. After moving to Glasgow in 2014 to undertake a PhD in crystallisation, Sebastion took a break from the stage for a few years. Work then took him to Edinburgh, and he couldn't resist the urge to return to the world of topsy-turvydom, joining the Edinburgh Gilbert and Sullivan Society in 2021. The only Rodgers and Hammerstein that Sebastion has performed before Cinderella was for his ABRSM Grade 8 singing exam, where he sang "Some Enchanted Evening". This is his first performance with Threepenny Theatricals, and his first "proper musical", having worked with Fiona and Ross previously in Gilbert and Sullivan productions. Sebastion has been enjoying playing a different character and familiarising himself with an alternative style to that of G&S. Who knows - maybe it will mark the beginning of a whole new chapter of exploration into musical theatre? He might even make it "past chapter 2". - Biography taken from the programme for Cinderella (2024) |
